Northern Scythe Championships - Sunday 15th July
The Northern Scythe Championships return for 2018 to the lovely meadow at Lower Winskill Farm which hosted it last year.
There will be talks and walks in the morning on herbal medicine and the history of the farm as well as demonstrations and drop in craft sessions for you to enjoy, including printing, stone carving and spinning.
There will be a special showing of the Moonbeam Collective's film, "Streams of Wonder", which will be shown in the "Great Barn" around 12 noon. The film is an hour long and people are invited to drop in a savour the beautiful sights and sounds of the film for as long as they want. To find out more about their project please visit... https://www.themoonbeamcollective.co.uk/
There will be a scythe shop where you can purchase scythes and other scythe related paraphernalia as well information stands on seeds, wildflower identification and local environmental charities.
Hot and cold drinks, cakes and a light lunch will be available to buy in the barn at lunchtime and throughout the day.
In the meadow there will be hay making demonstrations (weather dependent of course!) with the highlight of the day being the competition which will be held from around 2 o'clock onwards.
Competitors from all over the country are invited to enjoy mowing in this beautiful location and to experience what it's like to mow upland hay meadow sward. It's a joy!
**Please Note** It is great if you are able to purchase tickets in advance, just so we know what numbers need accommodating in the field for parking, however tickets are available to buy on the gate on the day.
While there will be plenty of parking available, we encourage people to wander up to the farm on the footpaths from Settle if you can, or cycle if you don't mind steep hill climbs!
